The Promise of a Multitude of Nations

“I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language…” — Revelation 7:9

The Jews are but one nation of Israel—Where did the great multitude come from?

“In those days the nation of Judah will live with the nation of Israel. They will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave their ancestors as their own property.” — Jeremiah 3:18

“The people of Judah and the people of Israel will be reunited, and they will appoint one leader and will come up out of the land, for great will be the day of Jezreel.” — Hosea 1:11

“I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.” — Ezekiel 37:22

 

ABRAHAM: “father of a multitude”

  • Genesis 13:16 “I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.”
  • Genesis 15:5 “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them. So shall your offspring be.”
  • Genesis 17:4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of a multitude of nations.”
  • Genesis 17:5 “No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father multitude of nations.”
  • Genesis 17:6 “I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.”

ISAAC: “laughter”

  • Genesis 17:19 “Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.”
  • Genesis 21:12 “But God said to him, “Do not be so distressed about the boy and your slave woman. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”

JACOB (Yacob): “supplanter”; ISRAEL: “perseveres with El”

  • Leviticus 26:33 “I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins.”
  • Psalms 106:27 “Make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.”
  • 1Kings 14:15 “And Yehowah will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused Yehowah’s anger by making Asherah poles.”

JOSEPH (Yehoseph): “Yehowah gathers” the Northern Kingdom of Israel

  • Genesis 32:12 “For You said, ‘I shall certainly do good to you, and shall make your seed as the sand of the sea, which are too numerous to count.'”
  • Genesis 37:8 “And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.”
  • Genesis 48:4 “And said to me, Behold I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people; and will give this land to your seed after you, for an everlasting possession.”

EPHRAIM (Ephrayim): “double fruit” of the Northern Kingdom of Israel

  • Genesis 48:19 “And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become the fullness of the nations.” (compare Romans 11:25)
  • Jeremiah 7:15 “And I shall cast you out of My presence, as I have cast out all your brothers, all the seed of Ephraim.”
  • Isaiah 7:8 “…and within threescore and five years, Ephraim shall cease to be a people:”
  • Hosea 1:10 “Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which is not measured nor counted. And it shall be in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they shall be called, ‘You are the sons of the living El.'”

  • Ezekiel 37:17 “Then bring them together for yourself into one stick, and they shall become one in your hand.”
  • Ezekiel 37:18 “And when the children of your people speak to you, saying, ‘Won’t you show us what you mean by these?'”

  • Ezekiel 37:22 “And I shall make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one sovereign shall be sovereign over them all, and let them no longer be two nations, and let them no longer be divided into two reigns.”

And I shall save them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and I shall cleanse them. And they shall be My people, and I be their Elohim,”

David and Levi, the Sceptre of the Southern Kingdom Judah, of the Jews

  • Jeremiah 33:22 “As the host of heaven cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.'”
Standard
